BMW 1 series
Code named at the factory the E87, the BMW 1 series is a small luxury motor car designed to rival cars in the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf which are in the same class size auto. However, it is the only car in the small family size luxury motoring range to feature rear wheel drive.
The BMW 1 series is primarily built within Germany at their plants in Leipzig and Regensburg. Key parts are still shipped in from Birmingham, England from the Hams Hall plant, giving the car a hint
of quintessential Englishness.
Launched in 2004, its initial aim was to replace the BMW 3 series compact. It was released only as a five door hatchback and BMW boasted that over 60% of its parts came from the its bigger sister, the BMW 3 series. In 2005 it was BMW's best selling new product outselling the z3 and x3 and x5 by selling almost 150,000 units.

Depending on the engine size you choose it is the most affordable and cost effective BMW to buy brand new. In 2007 the E81 was launched, which is the 3 door
sports hatch and had minor cosmetic upgrades like the rear lights and head lights. It also had modifications to the front and rear bumper. In 2008 a coupe convertible is scheduled to go on.
